Yukiko Ikoma Biography

IKOMA YUKIKO

Born and raised in Osaka, Japan, Yukiko Ikoma grew up in Osaka familiarizing herself with the taste of western Japan. Whilst at university, she was an active member of AIESEC through which she met her counterparts in Japan and around the world. Since then, she has enjoyed entertaining many Japanese and international guests with her cooking.
Having completed Japanese Cuisine Course at Ecole Tsuji Tokyo Cooking School, Yukiko started her cooking class in 2002.
Other than teaching, she has also offered her recipes to numerous corporations / organisations / events, including Sopexa Japon and Nihon Sakari (Sake brewery).

Yukiko is a senior trainer of Japan Fermentation Culture Association.

She has published her recipe book “Ouchi de yorokobareru nihon no okazu” (translates as “Japanese dishes that are loved at home”) from SB Creative.

Japanese cooking class in English

Yukiko can offer a lesson in English for non-Japanese speakers who would like to learn Japanese cooking. Up to four people in one class with some hands-on process, she will guide you to the basic but authentic taste of Japanese home.

Lesson A:“One soup, two dishes”course

Lesson A

In this class you can learn the basic of Japanese cooking.
We will cook rice in a pot, miso soup, a main dish and a side dish.
You will also have a chance to taste various kinds of Japanese fermented seasonings such as miso, shoyu (soy sauce), mirin and vinegar.

Lesson B:“Chirashi-zushi”course

Lesson B

You will learn how to make Chirashi-zushi, Osuimono (clear soup) and a side dish. Chirashi-zushi is a rice dish, mixed and decorated with various produce.
In this lesson you will learn how to make chirashi-zushi with salmon and cucumber; and also how to make “dashi”, Japanese stock, from kombu seaweed and bonito.
Once you have learnt this menu, you can entertain your guests with a proper Japanese meal at home!

* Based on lessons A and B above, Yukiko will create a seasonal menu according to your request.
If you wish to learn anything other than A and B, she will be happy to offer a lesson tailor-made to your request.

Lesson fee One lesson for a group of 3 – 4 persons: 12,000 yen (per person)
One lesson for 2 persons: 15,000 yen (per person)
Private lesson (one person): from 30,000 yen, depending on request

Cancellation fee will be charged starting from 7 days prior to lesson.
